Cal:
So today I discover this group and look forward to future exchanges of "Off Topic, Strange and Fun". Surely when the word gets out, many will want to join in the fun. It was a joy that you found use for the bit of info I sent you.
Speaking of strrange and interestging experiences, after graduating from college with a sociology degree at the age of twenty, this wet behind the ears kid began a job with a rural county public welfafre program. Many of my clients were on "The Old Age Pension" and required regular visits from their social worker. Always short of money, at that time, 1949, many were approved as eligible but were on a waiting list for benefits when money might some day be available, like after a few deaths. Still recertification annual visits were required. After my first few days of presuming optimism, I was assuring the clientele that they should soon be receiving benefits. Shortly I received a letter from the governor, "Big Jim Folsom" asking for an explanation of a letter sent to him by one of those visited by me. The letter, "Dear Mr. Governor Big Jim Folsom: The Welfare Boy has done visited me and promised me a check and it ain't come in yet. Please do something and remember your promise that you would see that all us old folks got money when we elected you our governor."
Needless to say, I learned to exercise a bit more caution, whough overwhelmed by my concern that "People were on welfare and not receiving money for which they were deemed eligible.
